(a/k/a my “about” page, but with pics!)

Me, sort of. It’s my self-sim, and it’s about as close to me as I want publicly visible. (Self-sim = a creation in The Sims 2 meant to look as much like oneself as possible within the parameters of the game software.)

My cat Myles. He and his brother Nicky (see below) were rescued from under the boardwalk in Bethany Beach, Delaware at 12 weeks. Unfortunately, this was late enough that their feral mother had taught them to distrust and fear all humans. I adopted them when they were 8 months old. They have both bonded to me fairly well, but they vanish when I have visitors.

Nicky. Did I mention that I can’t pick either of them up and hold them for any length of time? I adopted them on January 2, 2000 and I still can’t pick them up.

Phoebe. If you want to be formal, Desert Jewel Dark and Roving Eye. She is a purebred Turkish Van, born on my father’s birthday. So her registered name includes a reference to one of his favorite songs. (I think it’s actually called “The Fireship”, or something like that.) We used to sing it in the car on long trips. Phoebe is now 8 years old and I’ve had her since she was 5 months.

Llew. He was returned to the shelter when he was 3 because he was too noisy. I saw – and heard! – him as soon as I arrived at my volunteer shift one evening right after his return and knew within moments that I was adopting him. He’s now 8 and was diagnosed this spring with small-cell lymphoma of the intestine. We’re nearly halfway through his chemo routine.
I anticipate Llew’s story taking up much of this blog.
I’ll also be talking a bit about life in general, which means topics may include the cat shelter where I’m a volunteer, my alleged boyfriend, my semi-local and not-remotely-local family, and my travels. And possibly my work. Or at least the non-work parts of work. And my friends, of course. (Last but not least, and all that.) And probably whatever is obsessing me at the time because isn’t that the whole point of a blog?
